Plastic Monument

YAC Young Architects Competitions

When you gaze onto the ocean, your mind probably starts thinking about the glorious marine life, the vast depths, and wonder of coral reefs and dolphins. Something you might not think about is the huge amounts of pla- stic pollution floating and decomposing in the oceans. “Never judge a book from the cover” is one of the first teachings you learn since you’re born but sometimes the cover is so magnificent that you don’t feel the need of going deeper.
This installation forces you to access into an apparently happy and peaceful little house in order to experience that – sometimes – appearance and reali- ty are not the same thing. To access you need to throw garbage on the floor: doing it with conscience generates in you a sense of guiltiness. Then, walking into the amount of garbage will generate a sound, the cry of Mo- ther Nature. An installation where you can experience the consequences of overusing and not recycling plastic through your senses: hearing, touching and seeing.
